Superintendent’s Message

August 2019

Greetings Hawk Families!

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!  I am extremely excited about the upcoming year and all the great things we’ve put into place to help our students be successful.

Through our strategic planning process, we’ve been able to create value statements, a vision statement and a purpose statement.  These are important to the work we are doing because they help keep us focused on our “why”.  Most people and organizations know what they do and how they do it, but very few know why they do it.  At LaRue County Schools, our why is student-centered, and that is reflected in these statements.  They can be found on our school website or by clicking here.

Students will also have the opportunity to earn a Work Ethic Certification this year.  This program is designed to help students become more successful in school and life by improving attendance, grades, behavior and involvement in school, the community or the workforce.  A successful Hawk is one that comes to school every day prepared to learn, works hard, treats others with dignity and respect, and serves his/her community.  Students who complete the voluntary criteria each year will be recognized. Graduating seniors will earn special seals on their diplomas.

While attendance is a key component of the Work Ethic Certification, it will also be a major point of emphasis across the district this year.  As a result, the Board of Education has set a goal of 96% for the 2019-20 school year.  LaRue County Schools offers so many wonderful academic programs and extra-curricular activities, but students have to be present to benefit from them.  Making attendance a priority at a young age will also make the transition from each grade level to the next that much easier throughout the student’s education career, as well develop a real-world skill that allows the student to be successful in the workplace upon graduation.

I am thrilled that your child is a student with LaRue County Schools.  Our students are our “why” and we will do everything in our power to help them have a positive school experience. Because we believe student success is the shared responsibility of the home, school, and community, I encourage you to become active in your child’s school.  Talk to the principal, teachers and other staff about the needs of the school.  Regardless of the level, we welcome your involvement!  I am looking forward to a very positive and productive school year from all our Hawk students.

It’s a great day to be a Hawk!

David
