LCHS delegation honored at KUNA

Eleven students from LaRue County High School traveled to the Galt House in Louisville for the Kentucky United Nations Assembly from March 26-28.

The following LCHS students attended the conference: Chandler McLaughlin, Hunter McLaughlin, Jacob Cecil, Seth DeVary, Symone Whalin, Virginia Taylor, Hayley Cecil, Josh McCourt, Seth Newby, Maddie Royalty and Noah Thompson.

The LCHS delegation acted as delegates from Djibouti. Senior Maddie Royalty and junior Noah Thompson authored a resolution about enforcing human trafficking laws.

Senior Seth Newby served on the UN Security Council and senior Virginia Taylor served as a committee chair. Newby authored a joint resolution with delegates from Somalia and the Republic of the Congo. The resolution was passed by the UN Security Council.

Senior Hayley Cecil served on the media corps. Newby and Jacob Cecil also participated in the Parade of Nations.

Three LCHS students won awards at the conference: Maddie Royalty (Outstanding Ambassador), senior Symone Whalin (Outstanding Speaker) and junior Josh McCourt (Outstanding Parliamentarian).

The LCHS group was honored as a Delegation of Excellence. An estimated 1,100 students from 38 high schools attended the conference. The Kentucky YMCA Youth Association sponsored the event.

Ben Schell, Lindsey Bryan and Kendrick Bryan chaperoned the delegation.
